Fictional Species - ANSWERS

1 - Smurf

The original term of this species came during a a meal when a cartoonist's colleague momentarily forgot the word "salt".  He asked "could you please pass the schtroumpf" he replied "here's the schtroumpf...when you are done schtroumpfing, schtroumpf it back".  The two spent the rest of the weekend developing the series which feature this fictional species that was translated into Dutch, which was adopted in English.

2 - Snork

This animated aquatic species uses pearls as currency, because clams were already being used by The Flintstones.

3 - Fraggle

These humanoid creatures live on a diet of vegetables, especially radishes and "doozer sticks" and if they touch their heads together before falling asleep they can "share dreams", all entering the dream together.

4 - Hobbit

This species has their feet covered with curly hair with leathery soles and almost never wear shoes.

5 - Jackalope

Legend has it that females of this fictional hybrid species can be milked as they sleep belly up and the milk can be used for a variety of mdeicinal purposes.  It is said that they only breed during electrical storms including hail, explaining its rarity.

6 - Furby

This hamster/owl-like creature has its own language, but has the capability of speaking in 24 languages which it learns over time.

7 - Gremlin

This English folkloric creature, commonly depicted as mischievous and mechanically oriented, with a specific interest in damaging or dismantling aircrafts.  The Twilight Zone  (show and film) featured one attacking an airliner.

8 - Mogwai

There are three very important rules for keeping one of these species as a pet. They are described as furry, cute, and very curious.

9 - Graboid

These are subterranean animals, superficially resembling gigantic worms or grubs, measuring up to 30 feet.  Their heads consist of massive, black, armored beaks and they have a trio of long, powerful, serpent-like tentacles.

10 - Dracs


These are extraterrestrial reptilian humanoid race featured in 1985 film Enemy Mine.
